Looking back to the year 1968: Germany had taken on
a very low position in the European school ranking list
of the time and additionally had to deal with the so called,
'Schülerberg', a large number of pupils. Georg Picht
one of the leading school reformers proclaimed the disastrous
state of the German education system. The proximate fight
against educational deficiencies led to a series of

exemplary school building projects, including the Weinheim
Comprehensive School. An innovative school project had to
be developed, which had to follow a coherent pedagogical
line, be well orga-
nised and economically justifiable. For the first time groups
of pedagogues, planners and administrators were involved
in the planning procedure from scratch. continue
